Rainbow House hosted its 2nd Annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes Event on April 16, 2016. Walk a Mile in Her Shoes is the International Men’s March to raise community awareness to end gender violence. The event proved to be a success with approximately 55 men showing up to walk one mile in women’s high heeled shoes. About half of the walkers participating in the event were 2nd Mile Walkers and one participant, Bill Loungeberry, traveled from lower Michigan to walk his 45th Walk! The community came to support these brave men by raising over 13,000 dollars for the Rainbow House and the Marinette/Oconto CCR Teams. The CCR Teams will be using the money raised to host a community training and Rainbow House will be using the money to provide transportation and relocation services to clients. Spectators watched and cheered as the men crossed the finish line.

There was a reception ceremony at the completion of the walk. A panel of celebrity judges, including the Mayor of Marinette, Steve Genisot, Bobbi Christopherson of Department of Corrections, Executive Director of the Rainbow House, Courtney Olson, and Investigator Tom Conley of the Marinette Police Department judged the “Best Dressed”, “Best Strut”, and “Best Struggle” competitions. Rick Braatz of Peshtigo National Bank won the award for “Most Money Raised” for collecting over $2,400 dollars. Rick Braatz also won the award for “Best Dressed” as he rocked the runway in a fabulous Super Girl outfit. Rick was aiming for the trifecta but lost the “Best Strut” competition to Grant Kuenhl of the Marinette County Jail. Grant strutted his way to victory by completing a daring cartwheel in his 4 inch heels! Brian Kallestad of Bay Area Medical Center staggered up to the judges table supporting his self with ski poles to claim his award, and gift bag of Epson salt and ibuprofen, for winning “Best Struggle”.
